What is Colocation?
Colocation is the placement of your server and/or other equipment in an operator's premises. It is recommended to use an independent Tier 3 data center. The difference between various colocation options can be huge, so it is recommended to get acquainted with more details about each option.
Colocation, Rent a Server, VPS, Cloud. What's the Difference?
In colocation, the equipment is yours, and you use the infrastructure (UPS, air conditioning, generators) provided by the service provider. With a rented server, you don’t buy anything but rent hardware. With cloud and VPS, you rent parts of a server or many parts from many servers. The differences are significant, so if you’re not sure which option is most suitable for your project, you can get a consultation.
What are the Costs of Colocation in AC☁DC?
In AC☁DC, you pay for the electricity and the Internet, which you would need anyway, as well as a small fee for the space your equipment occupies. Usually, using a data center reduces the costs and efforts you would have to invest into security, air conditioning, fire, and earthquake protection of servers, which you would have invested if maintaining a server room independently.
Why Colocate in Varna?
Option 1: You have an office or staff in Northeast Bulgaria - then AC☁DC in Varna is an exceptionally convenient location.
Option 2: You have servers elsewhere but are thinking ahead and wish to protect against problems with the main equipment. You can read more about Disaster Recovery outside Sofia.
Option 3: You want to serve clients in Eastern Bulgaria at high speed. Direct connections to Varna IX and Netix allow you to serve services directly, without the traffic going through Sofia.
Do We Have to Do Everything Ourselves, or Is There Support?
You can service your equipment yourself, but it is not mandatory. A team of specialists at AC☁DC is on site, ready to intervene if needed. Usually customers prefer to deligate the equipment installation, but if you have rules that prohibit others from servicing it, our team will not interfere.
What's the Difference Between Shared and Private Cabinet?
Both services have their advantages and cater to different customer needs.
Colocation in a shared cabinet means that your server is in one cabinet with the servers of other clients. This is a more economical option, suitable for smaller projects. If you want no one else to work on the cabinet, or you need space for mounting more servers - you might need a private cabinet.
Colocation in a private cabinet means that you are allocated a separate cabinet, which only you can access. This ensures greater security and independence, and accurate measurement of consumption. It is suitable for projects with a larger scale and more requirements.
Important: Besides the typical 42U and 47U cabinets, in AC☁DC we also have smaller cabinets - 10U or 22U. A suitable compromise if you are still growing but have high ambitions. Explore colocation options on site by booking a visit.
What is Connectivity?
In truly neutral data centers, like AC☁DC, multiple providers offer Internet services with various advantages and disadvantages, as well as the option for a connection to an office or commercial facility that does not use the Internet!
What Connectivity Options Do You Offer?
AC☁DC is a neutral data center, which gives you the freedom to choose providers and operators. We work with local, national, and global partners, but if desired, you can also connect with another provider not yet present in the data center. This way, you have the opportunity to choose the service that best meets your needs and preferences. If you are in doubt, you can get professional advice for your case.
Is the Power Supply in the Data Center Reserved?
Yes, AC☁DC relies on two independent power supplies. We also have independent diesel generators and fail-safe UPS groups.
How Is Electricity Consumption Measured and Billed?
There are two models for billing electricity consumption for power, UPS, air conditioning. You can either pay a fixed fee in advance, calculated based on the power of your equipment, or pay for the measured consumption. To measure consumption, it is necessary for the equipment to be in a private cabinet.
What is Remote Hands & Eyes?
This is a general name for services where our team performs a one-time task on site at the data center instead of you - for example, installation, moving, initial setup, etc. This can save time, labor, transport, and effort for your team.
How Can I Order Remote Hands & Eyes?
Every client of AC☁DC has such a service included to a certain extent. For security reasons, we need to receive an email from a contact authorized to manage your service. If you exceed the included hours, you may need to pay extra.
How many years is the Colocation Contract?
In AC☁DC, we retain our clients with quality, not contracts. There is no long-term commitment - colocation contracts with us are “month to month”.
Who Will Have Access to My Servers?
You can include authorized persons who can manage your service. Only they can access your equipment. There are only two simple exceptions - if you request our intervention (Remote Hands & Eyes) or if your equipment endangers AC☁DC (e.g., smoke coming from your cabinet).
Will I Have Access to My Equipment in the Data Center at Any Time?
Yes, if needed, you can always access your equipment in AC☁DC. We advise you to perform scheduled operations on your servers during working hours with prior notice to our team, for the fastest service. When access is needed for emergency operations outside of working hours, a colleague on duty will assist you.
How is the Provisioning/relocation of servers in AC☁DC done?
In short - it's easy.
You can perform the installation yourself or, if desired, entrust us with the installation. It is possible to deliver the equipment or send it by courier. At your disposal are a loading ramp, a freight elevator, a convenient “set up room” for equipment, fasteners, and tools. There's even a 3D printer to print a forgotten accessory, for example.
Can I Change the Service Used?
Of course, at any time. There are no restrictive contracts. You can add, remove, or change services. It is only important to do it personally or to have authorized the appropriate colleagues in advance.
In an Emergency, Can I Authorize Someone with a phone call?
For security reasons, only written authorization, including by email, is allowed. The authorization procedure is only carried out during working hours. You can request assistance from our colleagues (Remote Hands & Eyes). Under no circumstances is equipment allowed to be removed without prior request.
